A-Day 2010!

Roll Tide Roll!!! I was so excited to go to A-Day this year, especially since I had not been in a few years. Zach wasn't really crazy about the idea, plus he had Pancake Day for Kiwanis Club that morning, so he was perfectly content to skip the trip and stay at home that day. Pancake Day was extremely successful this year, with almost 1,000 people coming out to enjoy the pancakes. He manned the main griddle for the second year in a row. :) That afternoon, he bought some flowers for our yard and planted while I was gone, so he was happy.

I went with my mom and two other friends to the game. Dad also went, but he traveled with a group of guys. We were very fortunate in that one of our friends that went with us, Carolyn, is best friends with Kay Norris, the house mother of a fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha.

Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, with the sweetest house mother EVER!

She invited us to the house to eat lunch with them and relax before the game. We had a yummy lunch of fried chicken, veggies and homemade dessert. We were extremely full from lunch, so we sat out on their back deck and enjoyed the sun for a while before heading to the game.

This is the first room when you enter Pi Kappa Alpha. I just loved the crimson!

Kay let us hang out in her apartment in the house. I know this is a little random, but I just loved her little bathroom, so I snuck in a couple of pictures. Weird, I know, but I thought it was so stinking cute with the colors and all the monogramming!

We only stayed at the game through the first quarter and part of the second, then we decided we had endured enough sun. I used the word "endured," because that's exactly what it felt like. It was a gorgeous day, but so hot outside! We ventured back to the frat house for a little while longer, then headed to dinner. We had such a great time, with it being just us girls for the day.

Mom's & my houndstooth Yellowboxes!

Lots of people! I think the estimated count was 92,000!

The one in the blue jacket on the field is Saban!

Happy Easter- He Is Risen!!

I know this post is incredibly late, but I can't skip over one of the most (if not the most) important holidays of the year! Also, Zach took some really good pics of us that I wanted to show off! Haha! I only included our one favorite though. The sun was so bright that day, it was difficult to get the lighting right in all of them.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend this year. Growing up, my family always took our Easter morning photos together, all dressed up in our new dresses and suits. I love continuing that tradition with our new little family now. :)

I was looking at some of our old photos on Facebook the other day and came across this picture we took last year of us on Easter Sunday. Can't believe it was taken a year ago!

On Friday night of that weekend, we had a fish fry with fish that my Papaw Hoyt had caught. On Saturday, I spent the morning cleaning inside while Zach worked outside in the yard. That night, we went to his dad's house to watch the Duke Final Four game (which they won, as well as the National Championship game! Go Duke!!) and had a yummy dinner of fried quail that he had hunted. It was something new for me, but I really liked it!

On Sunday, Easter morning, we went to Sunday School and enjoyed a beautiful, worshipful church service. The music was awesome!! We sang the Hallelujah Chorus (with trumpet and tympani included) and it was so moving! After that, we headed home and took our traditional Easter photos. I was so excited that I got to wear my new dress, which I'm in love with (Thanks, Mom!!) Easter Sunday has always held a special place in my heart, as it should for everyone, but this year was especially celebratory because of our participation in Lent. We had both given up soft drinks of all kinds, so needless to say, we really enjoyed our Coke with lunch that day! Participating in Lent really made us realize how unimportant so many things are in life. There are so many little pleasures that we can easily do without.

I enjoyed the Easter afternoon by laying out on our deck and soaking up the sun. We ended the day by doing a little yardwork- we cleaned out our entire bigger back island in the front yard. I don't think it had been weeded in years, so it took us a while, but we did it! I told Zach we should have taken before & after photos, because it looks ten times better.

More & more plants in our yard have started blooming, especially our azaleas and dogwoods, so he ventured out with his camera one day last week and took some great photos. I will post those soon!

Time With the Fam

We have spent a lot of time with family lately! Jonathan is home this week for Spring Break, so we're taking advantage of having everyone here in town. On Monday night, we had dinner at my parents' house. Mom baked ham and cooked tons of veggies and I cooked the green beans. We got our Easter basket from Mom & Dad, which I really liked because since we've gotten older, we haven't had an actual Easter basket in years! I included a picture of our full basket of goodies. My new purse is included too- I had picked this out while shopping last weekend and Mom went back and got it for me! (Spoiled, I know.) :) After dinner, Zach left to go watch the Duke National Championship game at his friend David's house. They had a blast, and he's still so excited that Duke won!

I stayed at Mom & Dad's, and our Aunt Renea stopped by for a while. I have never been a big fan of coffee (I do like frozen coffee drinks though), but she brought some that we all tried. After a couple packets of Splenda and some milk added to it, it was quite yummy! We sat at the dining room table and talked for hours over our coffee, all while watching the game. It was really fun catching up, and an even better game to watch!

On Tuesday night, we all had dinner at my Mamaw Helen & Papaw Hoyt's house. We always have a great time visiting with them. Tonight, we're having our weekly dinner with Mamaw Ruth, so we'll cover all the bases on my side of the family this week.

I will post Easter pics soon. They are on Zach's camera at the moment, so hopefully I will get them uploaded before Spring is over! :)
